The Media and Social Norms Collaborator is being shared by Kavita at the Department of Media and Communications. Looking forward to engaging with students and staff who work in this field.

These short films attest to a wide range of voices and agendas (including questions of identity and beauty presented in Ng'endo Mukii's work; and that of the pain of displacement and belonging in Rumbi Katedza’s film, that these artists/filmmakers are bringing to the screen and the cultural and industry collaborations that are behind some of them eg. Pascale Obolo’s filmography combines stories from the diaspora in the Caribbean and Europe and Sylvie Bayonne’s film in this programme combines inspiration from Oriental and African cultures. The Focus Features Africa First programme has supported a number of talented filmmakers and their short films nurtured in that programme attest to that talent– eg. The work Akosua Adoma Owusu is included in this programme - but other ‘Africa First’ female alumini (not included on this occasion) such as Wanuri Khaiu, Rungano Nyoni, Jenna Bass and others are also well known to international audiences, through their award-winning short films and their subsequent recent accomplished feature films.

At the London School of Economics, Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science, the MSN collaborator is meeting to hear the behaviour scientists respond to the MSN agenda. All 6 members of the MSN steering committee are speaking at the meeting chaired by Kavita. We have 2 new advisors and a number of new members from the field! Kavita is engaged in this very exciting project with Women for Women International. Women for Women International has worked with more that 462,000 marginalised women survivors of conflict in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the DRC, Kosovo, Iraq, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan. This project is aimed to understand the pathways through which marginalised women's voices are represented at various levels and good practice for INGOs amplifying comes of the people they serve. 

Kavita has been invited to speak at the the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation convening on Advancing Social Norms Practice. She will speak on the Media and Social Norms Collaborator. Its a really exciting opportunity where researchers, implementers, policy makers and donors will come together to reflect on advances in social norms theory and practice, identify gaps in evidence and practice to prioritise efforts going forwards and to increase the ability to determine when normative approaches are relevant and make be best employed for programmes. 

Akanksha and Evaldesign are launching the Handbook on the measurement of 21st century skills at a round table event bringing together academics from Harvard and Stanford, the World Bank, practitioners from Pearsons, the Sesame workshop, Dream a dream and the Government of India to discuss 21st century skills in the Indian education context.
